Since its inception in 1937, Camp Greentop has been meeting the needs of children and adults with physical, emotional, cognitive, and multiple disabilities. Camp Greentop is one of the oldest residential camps in America designed specifically for people with special needs.
Camp Greentop is accredited by the American Camp Association and is licensed by the State of Maryland for Youth Camp Certification.
We have a variety of camp programs available during the summer. Each one offers a unique camping experience with the added benefit of a great camper to counselor ratio. Our campers are supported by over 85 trained camp staff from all around the world. All staff are required to participate in our orientation program prior to campers arriving, which consists of topics from characteristics of disabilities to how to assist with Activities of Daily Living.
Traditional Youth Camp: Camp Greentop's traditional youth camp offers campers ages 7 to 21 a rustic camp experience in a supportive environment. Campers travel with their cabin groups to traditional camp activities such as swimming, arts & crafts, nature, performing arts, music, and sports & games. Horseback riding is also available for those campers with permission to ride. Structured camp days include three activities in the morning and three activities in the afternoon. Each day ends with an evening program such as a dance, campfire, talent show, or group games. With a 2:1 camper to counselor ratio, staff are available to assist in any aspect of daily care.
Traditional All-Ages Camp: Camp Greentop's traditional camp for all-ages is open for campers ages 7 and up. The daily schedule is set up like the traditional youth sessions, with a lot of structure and very little down time. These sessions are ideal for those adult campers who need a structured daily schedule to be successful in the camp environment. The all-ages sessions also provide a 2:1 camper to counselor ratio.
Adult Camp: Camp Greentop offers adult campers the ability to be more independent and choose their activities with a more relaxed atmosphere. Campers choose traditional camp programs in which to participate such as swimming, crafts, music, sports, and much more. In addition, we offer adult campers the opportunity to participate in day trips. Each day, two trips leave camp. Adult campers choose from trips including baseball games, the rodeo, dinner theaters, jazz concerts, the race track, tubing, fishing, and more. While the abilities of our campers may vary, our camp staff assist campers in making their daily activity choices as well as modifying the activity to each camper's individualized ability. Staff, at a 2:1 camper to counselor ratio, are also available to assist with any aspect of daily care.
Greentop Day Camp: Enjoy The League at Camp Greentop during the day! Greentop Day Camp is designed to introduce campers to Camp Greentop’s summer camp programs. Campers will arrive at camp at 8:30am, have a day full of camp activities, and get picked up at 5:30pm. Transportation is not provided, so families must drop off and pick up their campers at camp. Day campers will integrate into our main camp program, enjoying activities such as swimming, arts & crafts, sports, music, nature and much more. Greentop Day Camp has a 2:1 camper to counselor ratio, and our trained and caring Day Camp Counselors will work with campers to achieve their individual goals. This program is designed for youth ages 7 to 21.
League Pioneers: Experience cooking over a fire, canoeing, and camping in a tent! Since 2003, Pioneers learn and take part in activities in four areas: pioneering, outdoor living skills, astronomy and adventure skills. Located ½ mile down the road from Camp Greentop, League Pioneers takes place at Walnut Springs. Participants will also explore the rest of the National Park and nearby Cunningham State Park. All League Pioneers should be able to navigate uneven terrain and be successful in a 3:1 participant to counselor ratio. So roll up your sleeping bags, fill your canteen and prepare for a fun and adventurous primitive camping experience as a League Pioneer!
Travel Camp: Head off on an adventure with The League at Camp Greentop! With a variety of locations, adult travelers are sure to experience an unforgettable adventure. Meet at Camp Greentop and head out on your action-packed adventure. (Please note: Transportation is NOT provided to or from Camp Greentop for check-in). With a 3:1 traveler to counselor ratio, travel counselors are able to assist campers to participate in scheduled activities in order to maintain and improve their leisure lifestyle. Whether you are interested in the upbeat pace of city life or the relaxing atmosphere that the country has to offer, we have a travel camp session for you!
Family Adventure Weekend: The League's annual "Family Camp" weekend welcomes returning campers and their families, and new members of the Camping & Therapeutic Recreation family are encouraged to attend. Family Adventure Weekend provides a weekend of family fun, complete with activities such as swimming, crafts, sports & games and more. Each family will have the support of a host staff to assist them throughout the weekend. This allows parents to watch as their child adapts to the camp environment, and allows the children the comfort of knowing their parents are there with them.
