Living Well at The League: Bridget’s Story

With a heart of gold and a fun-loving sense of humor, Bridget brings light and joy to staff members, participants, and visitors at East Cold Spring Lane. In The League’s Adult Medical Program, she fills her daily schedule with opportunities to create art, sing songs, connect with friends, and enjoy the little things in life, like a lucky BINGO card.

Bridget’s beautiful smile causes people to gravitate to her, while her kind and creative personality convert them into friends. And Bridget loves making cards for her friends! She’s always ready to share a happy, thoughtful, or funny sentiment using a hand-crafted greeting card. To foster artistic expressions, you’ll be glad to know that The League remains fully-stocked on card-making essentials: colorful construction paper, acrylic markers, and stickers.

Fortunately, The League also remains fully-stocked on opportunities for volunteers to get involved with programming. Participants like Bridget enjoy spending time with visiting volunteer groups because it gives them the chance to build relationships over similar interests while their hands put together seasonal crafts, bird feeders, and budding flower pots.

For Bridget, The League brings her life meaning and purpose by increasing her self-sufficiency. She wakes up in the morning, chooses her outfit, schedules her mobility rides, and comes ready for a hearty breakfast with friends. Through the compassion and planning of the direct support professionals, her days hold the potential for art, music, games, creative writing, and fun. Without The League, Bridget would be sitting at home all day with no one to applaud her rendition of the Jackson Five.

Bridget’s passion for music prompted her to attend a recent evening of CLUB1111 for the first time with her sister. She enjoyed the rhythmic bass, pulsing lights, Spa Experience, and snacks so much, that Bridget invited her friend Ralph to join her at November’s CLUB. Together, they experienced the joy of Maryland’s first nightclub for adults with disabilities and were empowered to exercise some independence in a safe and inclusive environment.

While the government funds access to a Medical Day Program, The League provides so much more than just healthcare, it gives our participants the chance build community and dance the night away at CLUB1111. Opportunities like these promote autonomy, encourage creativity, and empower people like Bridget to feel fulfilled beyond just her physical health.
